Volunteering with CMCU
Why do Credit Unions need volunteers?
Credit Unions are by their nature mutual and co-operative organisations and it is essential to their rules of governance and their core values that they are run by volunteers.
Board of Directors
The day to day business of Churches’ Mutual Credit Union is carried out by a small staff team who are based in our offices in Gloucester, but the overall strategy is governed by a body of volunteer directors. There are nine directors a third of whom are elected to serve a three year term at the Annual General Meeting. CMCU aims, as far as possible, to have a board that represents the membership in age, gender and denominational background.
CMCU is very fortunate to have a number of people with expertise in the community finance sector who provide support and assistance to the credit union board and staff. The advisory committee meet with the full board twice a year, while individual members provide advice on an ad hoc basis as required. At present we are looking for volunteers with experience in the areas of marketing, IT, human resources and legal who might be willing to join this committee. Please contact us on 01452 500 463 for more information.
Because of the nationwide scope of the credit union’s services we rely heavily on Local Champions to assist with promoting the credit union at events such as church conferences and synods. This can be as involved as making sure posters and leaflets are up to date in your workplace, to speaking at staff meetings, or events such as deanery synod or district council. If you are interested in helping the credit union in this way, please contact us. We will provide full training and resources.
